Essential question: How do works of art such as music and poetry shape our interpretation of the Civil Rights Movement?

Video: You are There: A Struggle for Power will introduce young people to the emotion, the urgency and the pain of the Civil Rights Movement through the artistic expression of the times. Passive resistance, espoused and modeled by Dr. Martin Luther King, often evoked angry and violent response. Interviews and performances will punctuate the development of the historical picture of the times. Students will learn how art is impacted by the political and social environment of an era. Viewers can test their own attitudes and values in light of those popular forty to fifty years ago.

CD ROM : The Struggle for Empowerment Introduces students to the major events, people, laws, and themes of the Civil Rights Movement and to the concept of Core Democratic Values. Through a variety of reading and hands-on activities, students learn about empowerment as it relates to the struggles of African Americans. Highlights include:
